Introduction
These
books elaborately describe and discuss about the
good and bad effects of medicines, herbs, their
medicinal traits and identification and directions
for use. Ibn Betar did intensive travelling to
many countries for collecting and arranging the
properties of various medicines for his books,
which also contain illustrations of all the herbs
and medicines. Noted among these books are Medicine,
Pharmacology, Chemistry and Physics, Medical Juris
Prudence, Anatomy, Physiology, Beauty, Diseases
of Men and Women, Midwifery, Paediatrics, Hygiene,
Pathology and Diagnosis.
Physicians have compiled different books on these
subjects. These physicians have also rendered
invaluable services in the field of surgery. Cleaning
of wounds, joining or stitching of cut parts of
the body and healing of internal wounds of the
inner body parts were the subject of their treatment.
They invented various medical instruments, apparatus
and formulated the rules of sterilisation. It
was their idea that a hospital should be situated
amidst hygienic environment and fresh air.
During the 7th and 8th century, when the Arabs took prominence on the world map, all the knowledge, art, sciences spread in different languages throughout the world, were translated in Arabic. In this way, Unani Tibb got mixed up in Arab Tibb. Afterwards, when the European countries started dominating, these treasures of knowledge got shifted there. The Europeans not only made this knowledge their hobby but after necessary research work also prescribed them in their syllabus.
